The origins of Rutherford and Company go back to the middle of the 18th century when the family acquired a tavern just off the High Street in Edinburgh. History tells us that.

'Kindly Mrs Rutherford's tavern in Craig's Close was favoured by the merchants who congregated at the Mercat Cross to discuss business'. Amongst her regulars was Robert Burns, with whom the family has some intriguing connections.

Many of Rutherford’s products can be personalised with names, dates or other information to commemorate special events such as Birthdays, Retirements, Weddings, Christenings and Anniversaries. The text is fired into the glaze, creating a unique family heirloom that should last for many hundreds of years. We can personalise a single piece or a quantity. We can also reproduce a photograph as an enamel print and permanently fire it into the glaze. What we can do is obviously limited by the amount of available space on the item being personalised and the most suitable pieces are the 70cl Traditional Decanter, the 50cl Elegant Decanter, the 40cl Highland Flagon, the Bone China Mug and the 190mm Bone China Plate.
